A Unique Approach
Massage therapy is a treatment process developed to use gentle stretching, mobilization and soft tissue massage techniques to treat a variety of conditions such as migraine headaches, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, neck and back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, insomnia and asthma.
Massage therapists are trained in the principles of anatomy, physiology, pathology, massage theory and practical uses of massage. They are also versed in stretching techniques, remedial exercise and gentle mobilization.
Because massage therapy uses gentle techniques, it is ideally suited for persons who may be experiencing pain or discomfort associated with a less active lifestyle.
Throughout Canada, massage therapists work in collaboration with physicians, dentists, chiropractors, physiotherapists and other health care professionals. Throughout the world, massage therapy is an important part of self-care and health care programs. Massage therapy is widely recognized by patients and doctors alike as an effective means of treating soft tissue pain or disability, and for its value in preventative care.
Swedish Massage Therapy
Find Balance
This is the most common type of massage therapy. It is also known as Swedish massage or simply massages therapy. The goal is to relax the entire body into a state of bliss. Massage therapists use long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements with an oil or lotion. The strokes are usually done in the direction of blood towards the heart. Swedish massage therapy can be very gentle and relaxing.
Deep Tissue Massage
An Ancient Science
Deep tissue massage targets chronic tension in muscles that lie far below the body’s surface. Deep muscle techniques involve slow strokes, direct pressure or friction movements that go across the muscle grain.
When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.
Trigger Point Therapy
Release Tension
Trigger point therapy is a neuromuscular therapy designed to speed up recovery from injury, correct muscular imbalances and relieve pain. Your massage therapist will stretch the muscle and then apply pressure to areas of muscle disfunction. This helps to relive muscle tension and promote healing.
Prenatal Massage
Natural Healing
Prenatal Massage is similar to a regular, Swedish
massage, but is modified for the safety of mom and baby. Our therapists have knowledge of the anatomy of pregnant women as well as, and contraindicated techniques or modalities to ensure client safety. We also offer use of a specialty pregnancy bolster that supports physical changes in an expecting mothers body. Prenatal Massages can be useful for easing labor pain, increasing blood circulation, reducing swelling and providing support for the mother.
Reiki
Energy Healing
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Myofascial Cupping
Create Space
Cupping Therapy is one of the oldest forms of medical treatment available. Originating in Eastern China and Africa, this method of treatment is chosen to relieve pain and tension in the body using the application and suction pressure of plastic or glass cups.
Areas of musculoskeletal tension or congestion are located using massage techniques, cups are then applied on an affected area and moved over the surface in a gliding motion, or possibly put on a fascial adhesion or trigger point for a short time to reduce and eliminate it.
The cups can also be placed on specific points of the body to release localised acute and chronic tension and help to increase blood flow to the area.
Hot Stone Massage
Healing Through Heat
Hot stone massages have been a regular practice for many cultures around the world for thousands of years and are known to be one of the most relaxing forms of massage therapy available. During a hot stone massage, Basalt lava stones are placed in very warm water to heat up and placed on various parts of your body.
Stones can be placed on:
The sides of your spine
The palms of your hands
Your legs, abdomen or feet
Among many other places
Using the hot stones as heated tools, your massage therapist will massage areas of tension and tightness in your body. The hot stones apply heat to the specific parts of your body and cause your muscles to relax.
